What the business needed

Home Hues paints, decorates and plasters from Hebden Bridge, with eighteen years on the tools and 5.0 from five Google reviews as of August 2026, across Halifax, Todmorden, Sowerby Bridge, Brighouse, Elland, Huddersfield, Bradford, Keighley and Leeds. The business had been paying a third party for a review-gating page and wanted one of its own, on its own domain, with no subscription.

What was built

Sixteen indexable URLs: home, about, gallery, contact, three service pages for interior decorating, plastering and exterior work, and seven location pages from Halifax to Todmorden. The location pages describe each town's housing, the terraces, the stone, the listed buildings, rather than swapping a town name into one paragraph. The quote form takes name, phone, email, postcode and job type, with a honeypot, and posts to Formspark; WhatsApp opens with the quote request pre-filled.

The review funnel takes a star rating first. Four and five stars go to the Google review link with a 'stuck for words' helper that assembles an editable starting paragraph from true statements; three or fewer go to a private form that emails the business with a call-back subject line. It ships with a one-line switch between gated and compliant modes, with the project notes explaining why gating risks both Google's policy and the UK's 2024 consumer law. The page is built and not yet deployed.

Town pages about the town

Each location page carries notes on that town's housing stock and travel, local questions and nearby areas. The swap-the-town-name test fails, which is the point.

Rating markup omitted on purpose

The business markup carries no aggregate rating or review nodes, with a comment citing Google's 2019 policy. Few competitor sites show that restraint.

A review page that is noindex but not blocked

Blocking it in robots would stop Google reading the noindex tag. The first screen is static and carries no tracking, so the site's no-trackers claim holds.

Getting it found

Multi-type LocalBusiness, HomeAndConstructionBusiness and PaintingService markup, a WebSite node, FAQ markup, a Service node on every service and location page, breadcrumbs and an AboutPage. Location slugs follow a service-plus-town pattern so the URL says what the page is for.

Under the hood

What the site runs on. The same approach is described on the service pages it came from.
